Is Welcome to the Sticks good for learning French?
Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis
Add to my listOnly if you're advanced. This comedy is built on the northern Ch'ti dialect, and many of its best jokes rely on hearing how it differs from standard French, so at lower levels you would simply be lost alongside the hero.

Why it works for learners
Few films make regional speech their whole subject. A southerner arrives in the far north unable to understand people, and misunderstanding becomes the plot. That means sounds and words are often explained, repeated or mocked on screen, which helps you notice what is unusual. If your standard French is strong, you get a fun lesson in how variable the language is, plus a look at French stereotypes about north and south.
What makes it hard
Ch'ti changes familiar sounds, and the humour often depends on hearing two versions of a word. Subtitles and translations struggle with this, so jokes can vanish. Words you pick up here are regional, and using them elsewhere in France would sound odd or comic.
How to use it
Watch after you are comfortable with mainstream French films. Follow the scenes where the newcomer is taught to speak like the locals, and replay them to hear the sound changes. Treat it as enjoyment and awareness, and do not add this vocabulary to your flashcards.
