Is Notes in Spanish good for learning Spanish?

Add to my list

Yes, at intermediate level, if you want real conversation from Spain. Notes in Spanish features a couple in Madrid, Ben from England and Marina from Spain, talking about daily life, which is much closer to real speech than scripted dialogues.

Why it works for learners

Unscripted chat is what makes it valuable. Marina is a native speaker and Ben is a fluent learner, so you hear both natural Spanish and how a foreigner handles it, including corrections. This is learner content, so topics are chosen for you, but the talk itself is close to what you would overhear in Madrid. Informal expressions come up often, and the hosts talk about culture and daily life rather than grammar drills.

What makes it hard

This feed is the show's Inspired Beginners series, which is only slightly slowed, so it may feel quick if you are coming from textbooks. Its Intermediate episodes are at native pace. Spain's accent and slang may be unfamiliar. Worksheets and transcripts are extras, so check what is included.

How to use it

Listen to an episode twice, once for the gist and once while noting expressions. Pay attention when Marina corrects Ben, since his errors may be yours too. When the beginner series gets comfortable, move up to the Intermediate one.
