Is HSK1 | 我的家 My Home | Comprehensible Input Stories HSK1 Practice Bundle 1/4 | Beginner Chinese good for learning Chinese?

Add to my list

Yes, if you are a beginner with some HSK 1 words. This video from the Mandarin Click channel keeps to HSK 1 vocabulary and uses pictures, so you can follow a simple story about home without translating each sentence.

Why it works for learners

This is learner-made content, not native video: the wording is deliberately limited, whereas native shows use whatever words fit. Its subject, my home, draws on family, rooms and everyday objects, among the first topics any beginner needs. The pictures carry meaning, so you connect sound to image directly. As part one of a four-part practice bundle, it also shows you where to go next if this one feels right.

What makes it hard

If you know no Chinese at all, even HSK 1 words will pass by as sound, and tones can blur words you know on paper. Simplified learner language also will not prepare you for native speed, so treat it as a first step.

How to use it

Watch once without pausing and rely on the pictures. Then watch again and repeat each sentence aloud, copying the tones. Come back after a few days. When you can retell the story about the home in simple words, go on to the next part.
