Is Élite good for learning Spanish?

Add to my list

Only if you are advanced. Élite is built on fast teen slang from Madrid, so it trains your ear for how young Spaniards talk, though its drama and murder mystery are probably more accessible than its dialogue at first.

Why it works for learners

Few shows put so much current youth speech from Spain in one place, from flirting and insults to gossip. It also contrasts wealthy students with working-class newcomers, so you can hear how class shows up in the language. The mystery structure, jumping around in time, keeps you watching across 64 episodes of about 50 minutes. If you want to understand Spanish teens or young adults, it is more useful than a formal drama.

What makes it hard

Slang dates quickly, so some of it is already old, and speech is rapid and mumbled in party scenes. Characters swear freely and talk over each other. Sexual and drug references are common, so treat this as adult content, and check before reusing any expressions.

How to use it

Use Spanish subtitles, since slang goes by too quickly otherwise. Keep a list of phrases and check their meaning and how rude they are. Start with season one, and move on only if it still engages you. Pair it with a slower show.
