Best Romance Webtoons for Korean Learners (2026)
The best romance webtoons for Korean learners are the ones where the relationship lives in the dialogue: confessions, misunderstandings, and the moment two people stop speaking politely to each other. That's exactly the Korean that textbooks handle badly and dramas say too fast. This list ranks ten romance webtoons by difficulty, from gentle campus stories at TOPIK 3 to palace romance at TOPIK 5.
Quick picks: For an easy start, Romance 101 (campus club romance, clear dialogue). For a recent office romance, No Office Romance! (2023–). For a challenge, The Remarried Empress (formal palace Korean), which has a Disney+ drama adaptation on the way.

Why romance webtoons are good for learning Korean
Romance is where Korean speech levels become a plot point. Two characters meet and speak politely in 존댓말. Later, one of them suggests dropping it (말 놓을까?, "shall we speak casually?"), and the switch to 반말 means the relationship has changed. A junior who calls a senior 선배 and then, one day, 오빠 is making a statement. You'll see these shifts dozens of times, with faces drawn to show what they mean.
The vocabulary also repeats. Every series needs words for crushes, confessions, jealousy and breakups, so a word you look up in episode 3 will come back in episode 30. The trade-off is slang, especially in high school stories. For the full range of speech levels, see our guide to Korean speech levels in K-dramas.
Easier romance webtoons (TOPIK 3)
Romance 101 바른연애 길잡이
Jung Ba-reum lives by the plans in her diary and is good at almost everything. The one thing that won't follow a plan is her crush on a senior in her university club.
Why it works for learners: The Korean title means "a guide to proper dating," and her name, Ba-reum, comes from the same verb as 바른 (바르다, to be proper), which is a nice first pun to get. The dialogue is clean and the setting is university life: clubs, seniors and juniors, group outings. Watch how she addresses the two male leads; their titles tell you who's closer to her.
No Office Romance! 사내연애 사절!
Two people who were first loves meet again as adults and drift from first love to friends to coworkers, while one heart keeps insisting: no office romance. (The English title is our translation.)
Why it works for learners: It's one of the newer picks here and still running, so the slang is current. Office settings give you workplace politeness on top of romance: titles, polite endings with colleagues, and casual speech that slips out when no one's watching. It pairs the writer of Romance 101 with Dubu, so if you liked the first pick, start here next. As an ongoing series, almost every episode was free when we checked.
Spirit Fingers 스피릿 핑거스
Song Woo-yeon is an ordinary high school student with no confidence. She joins Spirit Fingers, an odd, colorful drawing group, and starts to find her own color.
Why it works for learners: It's as much about growing up as about romance, so the vocabulary covers self-esteem, friendship and art along with dating. Group meetings mix polite and casual speech, depending on who is talking to whom. The pacing is calm and the bubbles are short.
Seasons of Blossom 청춘 블라썸
Students at the same high school go through first love and growing pains, in parts named after the four seasons, each centered on different students.
Why it works for learners: Because each season focuses on different characters, it works like four shorter stories, and you can stop after one. The tone is reflective, with narration boxes about memories and feelings, so you'll practice longer sentences than in a gag comic. A 12-episode TV animation aired on KBS 2TV from April to July 2026, which gives you a listening follow-up.
Intermediate romance webtoons (TOPIK 3–4)
Doona! 이두나!
University student Lee Won-jun moves into a share house and discovers that Lee Doo-na, a former idol who left her group, lives downstairs. He's had a crush on someone else for years, but he finds himself drawn to Doona.
Why it works for learners: The share-house setting puts several people in one home, so you get lots of casual group conversation. Doona's past adds idol-industry words (debut, fans, retirement), useful if you also follow K-pop. Netflix adapted it as a nine-episode series in 2023; check availability in your region.
Orange Marmalade 오렌지 마말레이드
Vampires and humans have lived under a peace treaty for generations, but people still fear vampires. Baek Ma-ri hides that she's a vampire at her new school, until a popular classmate, Jung Jae-min, starts paying attention to her.
Why it works for learners: The fantasy is light, so the language stays mostly everyday high school Korean, with a few extra words for blood, secrets and discrimination. Ma-ri keeps her secret to herself, so inner monologue carries a lot of the story, which is good reading practice. KBS2 made a 12-episode drama in 2015.
Love Alarm 좋아하면 울리는
An app called Love Alarm rings whenever someone within ten meters has feelings for you. Kim Jo-jo, a high school student, ends up in a love triangle that the app makes impossible to hide.
Why it works for learners: The title literally means "it rings if you like [someone]," a neat example of the -(으)면 "if" ending. The premise forces characters to talk about feelings they'd normally hide, so emotion vocabulary is everywhere. It's on Kakao's "wait for free" model. The Netflix series ran for two seasons (2019 and 2021).
Love Revolution 연애혁명
Gong Ju-young is an ordinary high school boy who falls in love easily, and he falls hard for Wang Ja-rim, a cold, prickly classmate. They could hardly be more different.
Why it works for learners: This is the definitive Korean high school rom-com, and a slang textbook. Naver's own synopsis calls Ju-young a 금사빠, short for 금방 사랑에 빠지는 사람 (someone who falls in love quickly). The jokes are fast and full of wordplay, so it's harder than it looks. It was Naver Webtoon's first title to pass one million likes, in 2016, and it was later made into a web drama.
Harder: romance fantasy (TOPIK 4–5)
Romance fantasy (로맨스 판타지, usually shortened to 로판) is one of the biggest webtoon genres in Korea: European-style empires, noble families and heroines who wake up inside a novel. The romance is easy to follow. The language is not, because characters use titles and formal endings you rarely hear in modern dramas.
Who Made Me a Princess 어느 날 공주가 되어버렸다
A modern woman wakes up as Athanasia, a princess from a novel she once read, and remembers that in the original story her father, the emperor, has her executed. She has to change her fate, whether by staying out of sight, saving money to flee, or winning him over.
Why it works for learners: It's the classic "reborn in a novel" story, so learning its vocabulary (황제, emperor; 공주, princess; 빙의, possessing a character's body) unlocks a whole genre. Athanasia's inner voice is modern and casual while court speech is formal, so you get both registers on one page. It's on RIDI, a Korean e-book and webtoon store, rather than Naver or Kakao.
The Remarried Empress 재혼 황후
Navier is the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire. When she learns her husband, the emperor, plans to make his mistress empress, she asks for a divorce and decides that if she can't be empress here, she'll be one somewhere else.
Why it works for learners: Court politics means formal speech, titles and careful wording in nearly every scene, and the title's words, 황후 (empress) and 재혼 (remarriage), along with 이혼 (divorce), run through the whole story. It's demanding, but the drama is strong enough to keep you reading. The webtoon finished in January 2026, and a live-action Disney+ series has been announced, so now is a good time to read ahead.

How to read a romance webtoon for learning
- Track the speech levels. Each time two characters switch between polite and casual speech, note the episode. It's a map of the relationship, and it trains your ear for endings.
- Collect confession scenes. Confessions use a small set of patterns (좋아해, 나랑 사귈래?). Copy them into your notes with the context.
- Don't learn slang you can't place. If a word appears once and the picture explains it, skip it. If it appears in three episodes, look it up.
- Read, then watch. Several of these became dramas. Our guide to learning Korean with webtoon adaptations pairs webtoons with their dramas, including Yumi's Cells, True Beauty and Business Proposal.
